We are the first people to offer a Diploma examination in spread betting. Why? During the course of 2007 the European Union directive known as “Markets in Financial Instruments Directive” (MIFID) will come into force. Unlike previous financial services regulation this will be law and there will be no avoiding its provisions.

Hidden in the raft of conditions is the proviso that Spread Betting firms must make sure that new customers are competent to spread bet. By offering an independently available course we will be able to say that any student who passes our Diploma would have the necessary skills and knowledge to be classed as competent.

Our beginners course contains all the information required. The examination will be available over the Internet.

We cannot guarantee that every spread betting firm will accept this as proof of competence but current indications are that most will.

We think you should be wary of any spread betting company that claims its own courses would suffice. It is possible that the regulator would challenge this as simply being a way of getting round the legislation. If such a challenge was successful then both the company and you would have broken the law - however unwittingly.
